Christmas Exhibition 2006

Farnborough Library 11- 18 Nov 2006

Christmas is coming and the geese are getting ….very nervous. Many of you exhibited works at the last show we did at Farnborough Library in February 2006. Whilst we only sold one picture we did get a lot of interest from prospective members and we have since welcomed those into our fold. It got such a good response, for no financial outlay, that we were all very keen try it again and the perfect opportunity has presented itself. The Library Manager, Sally Martin, has offered The Blackwater Valley Group of Artists the same display space as before, this time from 9.30am Saturday 11th to 4pm Saturday 18th November.

This is an ideal time to attract Christmas buyers – what better present could you give than a BVGA ‘original’? There will be the same number of exhibition panels as last time and I will probably use the equivalent of two panels to present information on the BVGA, along with membership information and details on the activities during the year. So the rest will be available for you to show your work. It will be nearly nine months (doesn’t time fly) since we exhibited there, so many of you will have new work that I am sure you will want to showcase. However, feel free to bring along everything you want to offer – as we are only there for eight working days I will go along on Thursday evening and swap the exhibits over if we have too many for the first display.

Nearer the time I will ask for volunteers to man the stand and do demonstrations (but only if they want to!). In the meantime start pulling together your best work, which should be either mounted or framed, and priced (or marked Not for Sale). I plan to hang the pictures in a similar system to last time – by subject matter – as that worked well for the viewer and gave cohesion to the display. The categories will happen naturally once we have seen all the pictures that are brought in,

Midsummer Blue
do not worry about trying to work to a particular subject or medium as that will sort itself out nearer the time during the hanging process. We will bring together all the possible exhibits a few weeks beforehand when we can see how things are progressing, so work to Saturday 21st October as the deadline for entries to be submitted. It also gives us time to pull together a catalogue of works, if appropriate.

So get those paintbrushes, pastels and pencils working. Good luck and remember – Christmas is coming!!!

Happy painting
